Bay United will have to win Saturday’s game to qualify for promotional play-offs.
This after the Eastern Cape province’s only professional team missed several chances, including a penalty, and ended up losing 0-1 to Free State outfit Carara Kicks last weekend. Defender Sakhile Makhathini (pictured) missed the penalty.
Bay United have since dropped to second position on the National First Division coastal stream log and are trailing log leaders Vasco Da Gama by one point. KwaZulu-Natal’s Nathi Lions are a mere point behind Bay but six points ahead of fourth-placed Carara Kicks.
The race for promotion, therefore -- at least as far as the coastal stream is concerned -- is really between Bay United, Vasco Da Gama and Nathi Lions.
While the Port Elizabeth-based team’s chances of securing a place in the play-offs will also depend on the performance of the other teams, winning Saturday’s encounter against Thanda Royal Zulu is the only result that will guarantee them a place in the promotional play-offs.
The match will be played at the EPRU Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday, February 13. Kick-off is at 3:30pm and admission is R10.
