Bay United have reclaimed the number one spot on the National First Division (NFD) coastal stream log.
The Port Elizabeth-based side beat their Cape Town opponents Hannover Park 1-0 on Saturday, thanks to a 26th minute goal by Nhlanhla Vilakazi.
All Bay United have to do now to guarantee themselves a place in promotional play offs is win their next two games – the first against Free State outfit Carara Kicks next Saturday, and second against KwaZulu-Natal’s Thanda Royal Zulu the week after.
Umlilo’s now very favourable position was of course helped a great deal by the 1-1 draw of the clash between Nathi Lions and Vasco Da Gama. Before their Saturday clash the two teams were occupying positions one and two respectively, with Bay in third position. Nathi had 32 points, while Vasco and Bay were only one point behind.
Bay United now have 34 points and are closely followed by Nathi, who have 33. Vasco are third with 32 points.
In other coastal stream fixtures relegation-threatened Ikapa Sporting went down 2-1 to Thanda Royal Zulu, while Carara Kicks and FC Cape Town played to a goalless draw.
And as far as the NFD inland stream is concerned, African Warriors are still the leaders, followed by Black Leopards. However, Black Leopards still have two games in hand.
