BAY UNITED STAY UNBEATEN, ON TOPSaturday, September 19, 2009  (8:09 )
Bay United stay unbeaten this season and on top of the National First Division’s coastal log. Reduced to 10 players after striker Jimmy Zakazaka was red-carded, the team still went on to defeat Ikapa Sporting FC 1-0 on Saturday.

Striker Maphelo Galada, who came in as a second half substitute, scored the game’s only goal. The match was Bay United’s fourth fixture of the season. It was played at Erica Park stadium in Cape Town.

“WE SHOULD HAVE SCORED MORE GOALS”

“We are slowly getting there”, Bay United head coach David Bright said after the game, “we should have scored more goals our boys missed a lot of chances”.

The “terrible pitch” was partly to blame this time around, the coach reckoned, “our boys couldn’t play the ball on the ground. It had rained in Cape Town and the pitch was like a pond where cattle used to graze”.

Bay United’s starting line up consisted of Tampungu Dikete (goalkeeper), Patrick Mayo, Mpho Erasmus, Charles Gallagher, Sakhile Makhathini, Khayalethu Ngangqu, Siyabulela Songwiqi, Vincent Khumalo, Jimmy Zakazaka, Nhlanhla Vilakazi and Pontsho Moloi.

Moloi was later replaced by goal scorer Galada, Khumalo by Luntu Mazana, while Jimmy Kauleza came in for Songwiqi.

* Bay United’s next match is against FC Cape Town on Saturday 26 September at the Westbourne Oval. Kick off is at 15h30 and tickets will be available at the gate.
